Transitional Kinder Registration Opens March 1stMonterey Peninsula Unified School District is currently accepting registrations for its Transitional Kindergarten classes at Foothill Elementary School.Children who will turn 5 between October 2, and December 2, 2013, are eligible to register. Transportation is not provided. A transitional kindergarten is the first year of a two-year kindergarten program that uses a modified kindergarten curriculum appropriate to the needs of younger children, and prepares them to learn kindergarten standards in the second year. After two years, students enter first grade.

Seal of Biliteracy StudentsIn 2012, California provided recognition to high school seniors who demonstrated proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing in one or more languages in addition to English. Students can demonstrate their proficiency in various ways, such as completing a 4 year series of courses in one language with a 3.0 or better, or passing an AP or SAT II examination. 55 MPUSD seniors qualified for the Seal of Biliteracy. An additional 4 seniors are candidates for the seal; they will receive the seal upon passing the AP Spanish examination. Congratulations to those students for their accomplishments!

Ways to Get InvolvedIf you would like to get involved in supporting our schools there are a few ways you can participate. Serve on your school site's School Site Council, English Learner Advisory Council, or Parent Teacher Association! For more information, contact your child's school.
