CATEGORICAL PROGRAMS

School-Wide Plan
Marina Vista School implements the following categorical programs under a school-wide plan umbrella:
1. SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT PROGRAMS (SIP)
This state funded program provides our school with opportunities to enhance activities for our students. Funds are used to provide supplementary materials, instructional equipment, and personnel beyond that which the district normally provides. The purpose of SIP funds is to facilitate overall improvement in curricular areas.
2. ECONOMIC IMPACT AID (EIA)
This state funded program provides extra monies specifically for the purpose of meeting the needs of limited English proficient (LEP) students whose primary language is not English. Primary language and English language development support is provided to our LEP students.
3. SCHOOL WIDE TITLE ONE FUNDING
School wide federal funding is provided to schools that meet the criteria of having over 50% of its students on free or reduced lunch. Our school wide status enables us to combine federal funds, SIP funds, and EIA funds to enhance services for all our students.

Parental Involvement
Parental involvement is an important part of implementing categorical programs. Marina Vista School conducts the following parent involvement activities in the implementation of its categorical programs:
1. SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL
All schools receiving categorical funding are required to form a school site council. The Council is made up of parents and school personnel and is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating the School Site Plan programs. Members serve for two years and are elected by their peers.
2. BILINGUAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE (BAC)
All schools enrolling 21 or more Limited English proficient students are required to form a BAC. This committee is composed of parents and school personnel. The committee provides input and makes recommendations to the principal, staff and SSC regarding services for LEP students. The committee is formed annually at the beginning of the school year and typically meets three times during the year.
