School Library

"What is more important in a library than anything else--than everything else--is the fact that it exists."
-Archibald MacLeish
Los Arboles Middle School has a fully functioning, exceptional library that serves over 600 students with a circulation of approximately 10,000. The library provides a multitude of services, including lessons on library use, research, and trainings on technology. Attached to the library is a state-of-the art computer lab that is utilized on a daily basis by both the students and staff on campus. The facility is also drawn upon to highlight academic accomploshments and to celebrate community and cultural events, such as our evening of the Young Authors' Coffee House, Professional Black Speaker Day, and serving as the reception center for the Monterey County History Day.
All English, English Language Learner, and Social Studies courses visit the library weekly. While Science, Physical Education, Mathematics, and Electives schedule specific lessons or research time as needed.
Informally, the library is open before and after school and during lunch and break, for students to work both independently and in groups, to draw, to share quiet conversations, to check out new books, and to enjoy!
The Chapman Foundation has been the single largest contributor in the effort to keep the doors of the Los Arboles Library open. This grant has provided a Librarian/Teacher on Special Assignment who has enabled our school population to not only access information, but to extend their learning and to go above and beyond by allowing us to highlight our accomplishments and celebrate the people and the history that make the Marina community so rich.
