All classes require minimum enrollment. Pre-registration is required.
Unless noted, these classes are on-going.
R.O.P. offers counseling and job training to high school students (age 15 and up or grades 10-12) and also to adults, if class size permits. High quality vocational and technical classes give basic information and skills for entry level jobs.
The Mission Trails Regional Occupational Program (ROP) is a county-wide educational service. All classes feature a "hands on" approach to learning, with training centers at a variety of locations throughout the Peninsula. Classes are designed for students to learn at their own pace, according to their own skill and ability levels. Most classes allow students to enter instruction at any time.

Work Experience Program…for High School Students
Cooperative Education
Because relevant and motivational learning takes place on the job, R.O.P. offers classes to students before, during, and after the school day. A student can earn up to 10 credits each semester while being employed, with a maximum of 40 elective credits during a high school career. The number of credits earned each semester is determined by the amount of time a student is enrolled and participates in an on-the-job class.

Administration of Justice
This course covers the history and philosophy of justice as it evolved throughout the world. It provides an in-depth study of the American systems and various sub-systems, role and the role expectations of criminal justice agents in their inter-relationships in society, concepts of rime causations, punishments and rehabilitations, ethics, educations, and training for professionals.
Prerequisites: 16 years of age or junior standing in high school.

Automotive Body and Fender
Learn the skills to repair car and truck dings, chips and scratches…then paint vehicles to like-new condition. You will restore all types of automobiles and truck bodies "hands on"! Learn to use the new H.V.L.P. spray guns and learn the application of base coat/clear coat systems. You will also learn how to get a job as a repair and paint application specialist after successfully completing this class.

Automotive Service and Maintenance
Learn the workings of modern automobiles by doing routine maintenance and major repairs. You will learn to analyze and repair system failures, become comfortable
with automotive hand tools, and learn shop safety.
During class you will use test equipment, automotive repair software, shop manuals, and parts catalogs. This class also prepares you to make career decisions and research job opportunities in automotive technology. This class meets the articulation agreement between Monterey Peninsula Unified School District and Monterey Peninsula College, and is one of the requirements for the degree program as well as the Automotive Technology Certificate Program at Monterey Peninsula College.

Crime Scene Investigation
This course is designed to give the students both theory and hands-on experience with the skills and knowledge required of a forensic crime scene investigator. Included will be an introduction to crime scene investigation, crime scene photography, and diagrams as they are used in a criminal investigation. Also included are the importance of physical evidence in solving crimes, dusting and lifting fingerprints, rolling a 10-print fingerprint card, how to perform a gunshot residue test, what methods can be used to process different types of evidence, how to collect evidence, and the use of forensic light source technology in crime scene investigation work. Emphasized throughout the course is the importance of effective communication and interpersonal skills, professional development, strong academics, problem-solving, safety, and the use of technology.

Computer Graphic Design
Get really imaginative in this class as you use your computer skills to create web page designs for the Internet as well as designs for printed materials. You will prepare for entry-level design jobs, as you complete assignments, and learn from lectures, demonstrations and guest speakers. This class also provides career preparation standards, including basic academic skills, communication, interpersonal skills, problem solving, safety, technology, and other employment skills.

Computer Maintenance and Repair
Trouble-shoot computer glitches with the best of ‘em. Learn how a computer works, then move on to basic maintenance and repair skills. Learn to completely dismantle systems, to identify equipment breakdown symptoms & faulty components, determine necessary and possible remedies, and accurately replace new and used equipment components to reconstruct units to full operation.

Construction Engineering Technology
Get introduced to various building trades with hands-on projects in drafting, design, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, flooring, framing, and drywall installation & finish. You will learn work site safety, and the safe use of manual and power construction tools. In addition to classroom instruction, there will be field trips to construction sites to observe practical applications of trade work in the building processes, and guest lectures from local construction/engineering professionals. Upon successful completion of this class, students will be qualified to enroll in advanced Construction/Engineering Technology classes as well as work at entry-level construction and labor jobs, if qualified.

Emergency Medical Technician Basic (E.M.T.B.)
Does emergency medical work sound interesting to you? This class will teach you the basics. Learn medical terms, anatomy, physiology, patient assessment and wound management. After successfully completing this two semester class (and you are at least 18 years old), you will be eligible to take the
National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) Exam.
These are the suggested prerequisites:
Health Occupations, First Aid or First Responder Class, CPR class, or permission of the instructor.

Food Production/Hospitality Management
Do you like to cook? The Monterey Peninsula is the place to become a successful chef, and this class will prepare you. You will learn the basics of restaurant dining room and kitchen operations: food service facilities and equipment; quality food purchasing and costing; health and safety regulations and practices; food preparation and service skills; and practical experience in food service jobs. The class also includes instruction in basic academic skills, communication, interpersonal skills, problem solving, safety, technology and other employment skills. The full ServSafe curriculum & certification is emphasized.

Health Occupations
If you are thinking about a career in health care, this class will help you decide if it’s right for you. This introductory class reviews the health industry and various career paths. You will learn about medical infection prevention, medical terminology, ethics and confidentiality, hospital safety, legal aspects, CPR certification & first aid, vital signs & body mechanics. And you will get first hand experience by job shadowing and taking field trips to community health facilities.

Media Productions
Step into a re-created media set and learn about television, video and motion picture production. You will work with crews to produce and direct a motion picture or video tape program for television. Learn about analog and digital video, cinema history, script writing, storyboard illustration, budgeting, planning and directing actors and crew. Demonstrations and hands-on activities include television cameras, lighting, animation, special effects, set building, green screen effects, virtual sets, sound recording, music, camcorders, digital special effects, and computer based nonlinear digital video editing. On-the-job training at television stations may be arranged prior to graduation and employment. Job placement assistance is available for qualified graduates who receive a Certificate of Completion in Media productions.

Mill Cabinet
Mill Cabinet and Furniture Making is job preparation class that gives students the skills necessary to begin a career in woodworking and associated fields. This course is designed to instruct students in the advanced phases of cabinetmaking and furniture making, nomenclature and advance operational techniques of woodworking and cabinet shop equipment. Students will receive instruction in design, furniture making, cabinetry, wood and wood-by products and materials used in the construction of furniture. This course is both vocational and avocational, depending of the individual needs and abilities. Students practice communication skills by applying reading, writing, listening, speaking, visual and non-verbal skills. Methods used in achievement the Course Objective include lecture on the course as out-lined, exams and reading assignments, demonstrations and laboratory projects. Methods of evaluating objectives or outcomes include 3-4 examinations, a project, a final examination, and participation attendance. Students require minimum materials such as a notebook, shop coat or apron, tape measure, and pencil.

Office workers keep businesses running. If you want to be successful in an office job. You will learn: computer skills, word processing, document and report writing, phone etiquette, general office skills, and professional business attire. Occupations with Children
Learn about careers working with children. You will learn guidance, nutrition, safety, child development and other skills needed to work with children professionally. Your day will be filled with creating rich art experiences and exploring the world of play. In addition to classroom instruction, you will work with children and participate in the operation of a preschool. As instruction advances, you will learn curriculum for setting up and running child development centers.

Sports Medicine
This is an entry vocational course that will provide students with skill, knowledge, and experience in the area of physical fitness, physical therapy, and athletic training. The course will focus on anatomy and physiology of muscle groups and the skeletal system, theory of exercise, aerobics, free weights, Universal machines, isokinetic equipment, Nautilus equipment, athletic injuries, prevention and a variety of treatments, rehabilitation, training room managements, equipment fitting, CPR and safety factors related to physical fitness, physical therapy, and athletic training.

Stage Production
So you want to be in show business? Here’s the chance to preview the many aspects of technical theater. You will learn about sets, lighting, costume, make-up, media/sound, stage managing, house managing, graphics, and production assistance. You will also be introduced to performances by working with schools and community theater productions.

Travel and Tourism - Hospitality Management
Can you picture yourself working in a resort, a travel agency, or a high-end restaurant? Then this class will prepare you for employment in the second largest industry on the Monterey Peninsula.
You will learn about travel agency operations, hotel/motel management, travel journalism, leisure and recreation management, and convention sales & planning. You will receive hands-on experience, and using business technology, you will learn economic practices necessary to run a business.
The class is rounded out with field trips, mentor programs, and paid internships with major businesses. Class credits can be transferred to tourism programs at Monterey Peninsula College.

Theater Occupations, Professional Actor Training
Have you always wondered what it would be like to act? Take this class and find out. You will receive professional actor training in all areas of theatrical performance including: stage movement, acting & directing styles, voice, diction, production & rehearsal techniques, theater etiquette & ethics, improvisation, script analysis, adaptations, stage terms & usage, audition preparation reviews. That’s a lot to learn! You will also write, direct and rehearse individual and group projects to be performed before a theater audience in professional theater environments.

Photography
In the Level I course students will learn to operate 35 mm cameras and manual light meters, while primarily using black & white roll films. Students will process negatives, create proof and enlargements prints. Students will learn the basics of design and lighting theories related to photography. Students will be challenged with assignments, which will replicate professional assignments, with the enhancement of critical thinking skills. In the Level II course, students will continue to explore advanced camera and darkroom techniques while producing a portfolio of their photographic artwork for formal presentation.
Exploration of alternative processes, studio work, future technology, and electronic imaging will also be an emphasis. Students will prepare for photographic jobs through research in the applicable industries writing resumes, preparing their portfolio, and understanding the job interview process.
