Resources for Military Families

Here is some helpful information on services available to military families.

Military medical benefits
TRICARE is the Military Health System’s health care program for active duty military, active duty service families, retirees and their families, survivors, and other beneficiaries.
TRICARE Extended Care Health Option (ECHO) program delivers financial assistance and additional benefits, including supplies and services, beyond those available under TRICARE.

These benefits are available for many families with special needs children. They must be enrolled in the EFMP program.

Self referral for mental health needs. A military family can call Military One Source and ask for a referral for any mental health service. The child or family can get 8 session with a psychologist, psychiatrist, etc without going through the normal TRICARE referral process. MilitaryOneSource-1-800-342-9647. if more sessions are needed by the patient, the provider then submits a referral/authorization form (preferably before the 8th visit—so there is no interruption in care).

All mental health services are available under this program except Counseling (counseling requires an MD referral). Patient should be sure provider is an approved Tricare provider or that they are willing to submit an out of network waiver. http://www.tricare.mil/west/#
The family can also self refer for mental health needs and receive 8 sessions. Same rules apply as when using Military OneSource.
