Home/Hospital Instruction

Student and parent/guardian make a request to their School of Residence's Principal or Counselor requesting to be placed on Home/Hospital Instruction. (This is required of all grades, K-12.)

A conference is held with the counselor and/or Principal and the parent/guardian and student to determine if Home/Hospital Instruction is an appropriate placement using the following guidelines:

  • Student is temporarily disabled and cannot attend school.
  • Student has a temporary emotional disability that prevents them from attending school.
  • A doctor's prescription and recommendation is needed to qualify for this program.

The Educational Options office must be contacted to determine placement. The contact number is 392-3511. Please ask for the lead teacher of Independent Study. The lead teacher will determine the start date for the student.

During the Home/Hospital stay, the family will be provided with all necessary books and materials by the student's School of Residence. The teacher will visit daily to keep the student current with their course work.
