 2009/2010 MPUSD BUDGET REDUCTIONS

On April 20th, the Board took action to approve the 2009-2010 budget reduction recommendations, as presented, by a vote of 6-0.  Since then, the Governor proposed additional cuts to education funding that was included in his May revision budget.

In preparation of the known and unknown reductions that MPUSD may face in 2009-2010, District administration recommended budget reductions totaling approximately $5.3 million.  Through a collaborative process, including but not limited to the Superintendent's District Advisory Committee, stakeholder input through community forums and  online surveys, Superintendent's Council meetings with District administrators, certificated and classified staff, Superintendent's Parent Council meetings, and community input at Board meetings, the reductions will give MPUSD a positive budget for 2009-2010.  The goal of $5.6 million in reductions will be met through a combination of reductions, one-time funding, revenue generation, and a healthy carryover due to conservative expenditures in the 2008-2009 fiscal year.

The 2009-2010 MPUSD July 1st budget, adopted by the Board on June 29th, has incorporated the cost-of-living adjustments, deficits, and elimination of the deferred maintenance local match as proposed in the governor's May Revision --- the reduction to expenses in response to the reductions made to the 2008-2009 budget in May.  Below are the approved budget reductions.

The District will continue to monitor all the underlying factors that may affect the District's budget in the coming months and will keep the Board and all stakeholders apprised of any new developments at future Board meetings.

MPUSD May Need to Reduce an Additional $5.8 Million by 2010-2011.
