Program Improvement

The NCLB Act requires all states to implement statewide accountability systems based on challenging state standards in reading and mathematics. Districts and schools that fail to make adequate yearly progress (AYP) toward statewide proficiency goals are subject to improvement and corrective action measures.

Monterey Peninsula Unified School District receives Title One Funds and failed to have all students reach the established targets for two consecutive years. Two student sub-groups that still need to reach these targets are English Learners and Students receiving Special Education services.

Monterey Peninsula Unified School District and seven Schools (Del Rey Woods, Highland, Marina Del Mar, Marina Vista, King K-8, Fitch Middle, Los Arboles) have been identified as Program Improvement.

Identified Program Improvement Schools within MPUSD all have improvement plans to close the achievement gap for the subgroups that did not reach the targets. Schools offer school choice and provide Supplemental Educational Services for identified students.
