Cosmetology and Manicuring

Make every day a good hair
day…become a cosmetologist. The 1600 instruction hours in
this program are required for the State license. Or create beautiful
nails by taking
the 400 hours required to become a State licensed manicurist.
Students are expected to purchase and wear a uniform to class each day.
The purchase of tools and materials
is also required and varies in price.

Spanish in the Workplace
These classes are designed for
those who need or desire to communicate more effectively with their
Spanish speaking students and clients.
Spanish I
Students will learn basic Spanish
vocabulary and language structure, designed for classroom, customer
service and business transactions. No prior Spanish is required.

Mandarin Chinese in the Workplace
Levels I & II
This class is designed for those
who plan to live or work in a Chinese speaking environment.
It trains students to meet ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview novice level
standards using the Pinyin System. Speaking & listening lessons include
key expressions, sample conversations, pronunciation exercises, grammar
notes, pattern drills, and communicative exercises. Reading & writing
lessons are slower paced and include learning radicals and simple
characters to read a variety of materials, and writing most essential
characters.

Food Service Safety – Serv-Safe

If you work in the food service
industry, this class will help you apply safe food-handling practices,
train other food-handlers, and be aware of the importance of serving
food safely to the public. This class satisfies the Monterey County
Health Department’s requirements for Health Permit holders. You must
purchase an exam sheet and the Serv-Safe Essentials, 4th Edition book,
and read them in advance of the class. Available from the M.P.C.

The 8-hour class is designed for
review only, plus time to take the test. You will become certified if
you pass the exam with a 75% or higher test score. The certificate is

Pre-Apprenticeship Construction
Prepare yourself for work in the
construction industry. This course teaches you construction terms,
procedures, use of tools, and machinery & safety procedures for various
jobs within the residential and commercial trades. With classroom
instruction and on-the-job experience, you will learn site layout,
concrete work, rough carpentry, sheet metal (heating), finish carpentry
& cabinet making, plumbing, floor covering, electrical wiring, brick and
block work, dry wall, painting, and roofing. Seaside residents may be
eligible for tuition waiver.
Successful students may be eligible to enter the Carpenters
Apprenticeship Program. Women encouraged to join.
This course is 12 weeks long.

Sports Officiating

This course is for both experienced
and novice sports officials. The curriculum provides a structured
approach to develop skills in administrative duties, games knowledge,
proper mechanics, attitude and sportsmanship, physical fitness, and game
situation
decision-making. Football, field hockey, soccer, basketball, volleyball,
& water polo.
